Prussia had taken over two districts of France, Alsace and Lorraine in the war. There came an order from Berlin, the capital of Germany that from then only German language would be taught in the schools of these two French districts. When Franz and other people came to know the news, they grew emotional. Even the villagers attended in French given by the school teacher, M. Hamel. They all felt sorry to think that they had not paid proper attention to learn their language.
