The reader's sympathy is with the peddler right from the beginning of the story. Why is this so ? Is the sympathy justified ?
Answer:
Tanu - The reader's sympathy is with the peddler. Bulbul - Quite right, he deserves all sympathies. Manasi - How he suffers makes us sympathise with him. Govind - But he is a thief, we should have no sympathy for him. Tanu - Just take into account his plight. Bulbul - He is nowhere welcomed. Manasi - People around him despise him. Govind - It doesn't matter whether people around him despise him or love him. He should have his own character. Tanu - But adverse conditions can affect one's character.
